Macky Alston
Macky Alston, a documentary filmmaker and activist, describes his advocacy for ACT UP as an early member of the organization. The interview took place at The Center, the ancestral home of the movement, as it is there where members founded ACT UP and met. He recalls the queer community's sentiments surrounding the epidemic, feeling as though they living a doomed existence, sentenced to an early death. Despite the negative attitudes of society towards queer people at the time, Alston recounts how ACT UP provided community, strength, and a voice to empower people to fight for their rights and enable change to occur.
