John Kite & Brad Margritz

John Kite, a pianist, and Brad Margritz, a retail worker, recount their experience living through the AIDS epidemic as a gay couple in Denver. They became partners in 1985, four years after the beginning of the epidemic, and strove to set a good example for what gay people were to the straight communities around them. In their interview, they talk about their work volunteering for the Colorado AIDS Project, how the epidemic differed in Denver compared to the more-commonly-told histories of AIDS in New York and San Francisco, and how sentiments towards gay people in the midwest during that time.
