Andrew Abate
Andrew Abate, a teacher of Computer Science, talks about growing up in Connecticut during the 1980s and how he was able to find a haven as a young adult in New York City. He talks about the stigma towards and the silencing of the gay community in childhood and teenage years, and the isolation he felt as a result when he started questioning his sexuality. In New York, he sought out answers to questions he surrounding gayness and HIV/AIDS. Although not without road bumps, he came to understand that education is the best way of advocating for others who are silenced and for yourself.
