Bruce Ward

Bruce Ward, an actor, writer, and singer for the Gay Men's Health Chorus, describes his life in the 1980s working for the New York AIDS Hotline. The hotline gave him a in-depth look into popular sentiments surrounding AIDS at the time and how the sentiments of the 'Worried Well' shifted as AIDS took a stronger hold in media reports. Acquiring the virus in 1984 and being diagnosed in 1986, Ward also talks about what it was like to be an HIV+ person during the 1980s and '90s, and what it is like to be a long-term survivor, particularly a survivor who acquired the virus before any treatments were available.
